OmniFocus 2 App Reviews

Omni-capable

Simple shopping list? no problem Plan what to pack for a trip? no problem Manage a million dollar project? No problem! This will do whatever you ask of it if you are willing to learn to use all of it’s features. It can be a bit overwhelming at first but just start using it and tighten up your setup with a weekly review, it will grow with you. The last update and Pro upgrade nailed the last few wishes I had. It will pick up your ios reminders too (Siri integration, great in the car), which also means you can enter tasks into Fantastical while you are in your calendar and they will appear in Omnifocus. The new Today extension is completely configurable as well, only see what you need. The developer is very responsive and constantly develops the app. Instant sync’ing across all your devices. I can even email tasks into my inbox from my heavily locked down computer at work. If you want to go beyond a simple electronic check list and really get a handle on your life this is the answer, dump every thought, task and idea in here and tidy it up when you have time.

The best of GTD app on OS X, period.

Title says it all. Long time user of OmniFocus on iOS and OS X. I love it.

Excellent tool

I’ve tried many other task management apps. Omnifocus is the best solution out there for me. Reliable, elegant and very usefull.

Great

It took a few minutes to get the hang of - a little more complex than a standard checklist app. However, it’s super powerful and useful. This is great software and worth the price for anyone who needs to manage tasks in any fashion. Its hard to think of any desk job where this wouldn’t prove useful. The parrelel/sequential distinction in particular is great. I’ve burned through quite a few task managment apps, and this is the only one that has stuck.

Switched from Things, thought i found what i needed…

..but i had to keep overlooking the fact that it didn’t do certain things i need it to do - most notably, multiple contexts/tags. I thought i had finally found my app… and i spent A LOT of time getting up to speed on the program… read many website, and the ‘creating flow with omnifocus’ book and they helped me get a grasp of the power that omnifocus has. It’s great… but there were still things from Things that i missed (ie. tags, drag and drop). Thought that they’ve got to be features coming soon.. but the more i researched.. the more i realized that they’d be a LONG time in coming… I also found myself spending SO MUCH TIME TWEAKING the settings.. trying to find the right combination of settings to give me the optimal to-do list… and in restropect, i’d say TOO much time. I think i’d created dozens of custom perspectives. none of which i use anymore. frankly, I feel a bit foolish for having shelled out for premium now… the custom Perspective thing was a rabbit hole of tweaking that i could have done without. I’ve since swtiched to 2Do… but here’s some things that OmniFocus DOES get right: 1. The Review tab… frankly, this took my GTD game to the next level… previously, i’d create tonnes of lists that were a graveyard of hopes and dreams… but the Review perspective for OmniFocus instilled in me the regular maintenance habits that i needed. 2. Sequential task… this was a revelation… the mixture of Sequential and Parallel projects really opened up my eyes to the possibilities of To-Do lists in OmniFocus. Thanks to Kourosh Dini’s “Creating Flow with OmniFocus” for opening my eyes. 3. Templates… leaving the house will never be the same now that i’ve moved on from OmniFocus… i had a ‘Leaving the House’ project that i’d duplicate and would keep me on point when packing up the family for a trip. This is a solid app. Very powerful if you know exactly what you want… but too many buttons and settings if you don’t and you could easily get trapped in a rabbit-hole of “optimizing” if you aren’t careful.

Double Charged

I am a bit frustrated that I when I replaced my macbook I was charged again to install the program. Seems a bit crazy as I am only using one copy of the program. Tried to report the problem but didn’t heart anything back.

Bring your life under control

With a little time and effort, you can make your productivity explode with this app. Just make sure to put everything and anything you are working on into the app using the Quick Entry window, then organize these items into projects, however small. Also, I found that using the compact view (in Preferences > Layout, choose Custom Columns) made everything look so much better and under control. Love this app. With cloud sync (built in) it’s all you need.

Import from OmniOutliner Document came Finally!!!

待望のOmniOutlinerからのImportがついてさらに使いやすくなりました。これだけでも価値があると思います。

Perfect GTD solution

If you use GTD to manage your life then this is the best there is. I have tried almost everything there is to use GTD with technology and I find this the best solution. You can easily view your tasks according to project or context, review tasks, schedule, and prioritize. I highly recommend this app. The Omnifocus website has many videos explaining how to use the app. The iOS apps are great too. I just wish they were a little cheaper, especially as they keep releasing a version 2 (etc) requiring me to pay again.

I run my life..

I run my life using this application. Projects, mini-projects, reminders. I really appreciate the tight integration with the iPhone and iPad versions on iOS. Im happily locked into the OmniFocus family of apps.

Expensive but worth it

If you’re looking for the best GTD app avaliable, this one is for you. Expensive but the most well-thought app on the market. The only thing is that the syncing between devices could have been done better (sometimes it takes too long to sync and having problems when task are edited on two devices in short period of time).

Still a dinosaur

Besides updating the ui, which is nice, the whole application feels dated, and inflexible, no tags, none of the really useful day to day features that all the competitors have. I really wanted to like it, but I ended using the HitList instead.

It’s not designed to be easy but to be powerful

Omnifocus is pricey and it’s not easy to master but it’s really powerful. Literally you can mold the way it behaves. You have the control of a personal assistant on your desktop and your mobile where you can create tasks and rearrange them for your perfect fit. If you are a power user I don’t know a better tool. I appreciate it every day. If your’re a casual user looking for simple todo lists manager don’t use it, could be a frustrating waste of money.

Worth the Time Investment

It’s taken me quite a while using Omnifocus and reading up on it to fully reap the benefits. Sticker shock almost dissuaded me when I saw how much it would cost on Mac, iPhone AND iPad but I’m so glad I’ve purchased it. It relieves stress, helps me to do a better job at work and lets me automate a good chunk of my recurring task management systems. Highly recommended, and do yourself a favor and get a good book about Omnifocus at the same time so you can really use it for what it’s made for.

crashes on startup

it is crashing on startup

Does not crash on startup. Lovely software.

I see another reviewer claims the app crashes on startup, but not so with mine. I’ve been using Omnifocus for nearly two years, and when paired alongside a disciplined GTD strategy, you’ll get more than your money’s worth out of the organizer. There’s so much more to the software than I’ve explored, but the core functionality is solid and essential.

Excellent software at any price

I would lose track of so much without this app. It has alot of features I didn’t use for a long time, but over time I started making use of more and more and it only got better!

Way too easy to delete tasks without noticing and no way to get them back

If you hit the delete key, entire tasks will quietly vanish without a confirmation dialog and if you don’t notice in time to Undo, those tasks are gone unless you have a backup. Doesn’t sound very productive to me. There are lots of complaints online and requests for fixes but Omni doesn’t seem to have listened. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Great app. Great developer

This is a solid productivity app. This along with the ios companion apps are indispensable to anyone following a GTD workflow system.
